AMDA caught my eye because of the classes they offer and the fact that you're recieving JUST stage training without the microbiology that normal four-year schools lay upon you.
However, if this school actually does turn out to be something that doesn't suit me, is it the last of its kind? Or are there other schools in the area that offer the same type of training?
What I'm looking for is a THEATRE SCHOOL, not a liberal arts college. Can anyone reccomend places they've visited, attended, or at least heard of that may be up my alley?

i'm not sure whether you're looking at their straight acting program or their MT program, but if you're looking at MT, maybe consider Boston Conservatory. they DO make you do SOME academics in order to fulfill a BFA degree, but not as much as if you went to a regular liberal arts college. there is no math/science (i don't think) and i believe that all your academic classes are somewhat theatre-related which is a good foundation. BoCo only has MT though - no straight acting.
also, check out American Academy of the Dramatic Arts, i have a friend who went there who LOVED it -- and i'm pretty sure it has a better reputation than AMDA.
there are also some other programs in NYC you might want to look into - Neighborhood Playhouse and Circle In The Square, and a few others.
i might think of a few more suggestions, these are just the ones i came up with off the top of my head.
good luck!

Look into Florida School of the Arts! It has a great program but you get an Associates in Arts in Two Years!
They have an A.S. in Musical Theatre
A.A. in Acting
A.A. in Dance
A.A. in Fine Arts
That's where I went and now I am attending CCM for BFA Musical Theatre
It's a VERY GOOD SCHOOL and will give the training you need and a degree!

i went to AMDA and loved it. most of my friends that went there have jobs now. it really prepares for the real world of auditioning and performing. some people don't like it. but i find that those are usually the people who can't take the pressure. the teachers are amazing. the classes are amazing. of course some teachers are better than others, but you're going to find that anywhere you go.
but i also think that the American Academy of the Dramatic Arts is a great option. i think it all depends on the individual. some people that i know that went to A.A.D.A., didn't like it, so they switched to AMDA and were much happier. however some people really like A.A.D.A.
hope that helps!
