Actress Q'orianka Kilcher arrested in Washington, D.C.

Activists and non profit organizations rallied yesterday (June 1) in solidarity with the Indigenous peoples of Peru and in defense of the environment. Among those protesting was actress and activist Q'orianka Kilcher, who was arrested after chaining herself to the White House fence.

The protesters demanded the end of destructive plans of the Peruvian government, which would allow access to the Amazon rainforest and the Andean mountains of extractive industries corporations. The Peruvian President, Alan Garcia was meeting with Obama in the White House at the time of the protest.
