Advice?

I'm a sophomore at my high school and I am currently in the drama and chorus programs there. I have a voice teacher and I try to be in as many productions as I can (usually 2 a year). I sing a lot in the car and in my spare time.

I really want to major in music theatre- its been a dream of mine. Is there anything else I can do to help achieve my dream? I know its a very competitive field and I wanna do all I can. How is the audition process for MT colleges? What do the judges look for? Any songs to avoid (other than Wicked or Rent)?

Any advice is helpful! Thanks in advance!

check out the "songs to avoid" thread.

you said that you have a voice teacher...are you enrolled in any dance classes? if not, definitely try and take AT LEAST ballet.

for MT colleges, there's really a lot they look for -- but basically, they're looking for someone who will be marketable when they leave so they can make a name for the school.

the audition will consist of monologue(s), song(s), and possibly a dance portion (depending on the school). your monologues and songs should be prepared months and months and months in advance.

your questions are really broad and sort of hard to answer with any sort of clarity....do you have any more specific questions? i'd be glad to answer any i can :)
