Hi guys -
I have an audition set up in NYC next week, and I was wondering what to wear. Not specifically, of course... It's just that out here in LA the dress code is extremely casual, and people show up at auditions in everything from dresses to jeans and t-shirts. I've heard the standard of dress for NY auditions is more strict... Is this true? Can I wear pants, if they're not jeans? (The show I'm auditioning for is pretty earthy, so I was hoping to avoid wearing a skirt...) Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks! =)
It all depends on the casting director. I've never professionaly auditioned myself, but I've worked with many (musically), and it all depends on them.
Some don't care if you show up naked - as long as you audition, that's all they care about.
Others (more pompous ones) find it insulting that you would audition in their presence in anything less than dressy.
Personally, I say wear whatever shows your personality.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm... OK, that gives me food for thought. (It's Dave Clemmons casting, if you think that makes a difference.)
Erika,
I would say it depends more upon the show. Most of the calls I've gone on for Clemmons have been for pop/rock shows and, for those, modern, casual wear (jeans/tees) are appropriate and acceptable. At least, 95% of the people there are dressed that way.

bwaysinger: OK, cool! Thanks, that's what I was thinking, (this show is in a similar vein, and a skirt just seemed silly), and I'm glad to know I won't be blacklisted for wearing cool pants and boots!
(I'm flying out of LA this Tuesday morning, so I'm just starting to think about what to pack, you know? In case I need to do laundry. hehehe)
Have fun! IT's freaking cold here compared to LA, so bring a parka. You know, to cover that prim floral print skirt you're going to wear to your audition.

Seriously. Floral skirt. Plaid sweater.
And clogs.
They will eat you up.
