Ok, so I have a huge voice recital for a college coming up on May 21...the only problem is I have major allergy problems! My eyes are swelling, my throat is dry, my nose is running, and I can barely talk because I can't breathe! It sucks! Any advice on what to do? I've been like this for about 2 weeks, so I'm going to the doctor today so that he can give me a shot...maybe that will help. IDK! I'm just getting really nervous because it's getting closer and I'm still not getting better.

you might want to see if the dr. would prescibe you an antihistomine. Other then that I'm not sure what to tell you. I have bad allergies too and voice is a wreck. If you're allergic to pollen, you could try staying indoors, but I'm not sure how much relief that would offer. You could also try a sleeping w/ a humidifier.

sleeping with a humidifier is AMAZING! last year before a showcase I did that and I saved my voice JUST ENOUGH to get by that night.
It's pretty bad for you.. but I know singers who (if NOTHING is working) get steroid shots. I would DEFINITELY not reccommend it as a first, scond, third, or even fourth option, but it worked with one of my best friends who was Gaston in B&B last year. :)

Posted: 5/9/06 at 7:04amLast week I had my final performance of Mame and I was really sick. When I had woken up in the morning I literally couldn't talk. It was awful. I went to the doctor and he prescribed oral steroids in the morning and by that night I was 75% back to normal. They are amazing. But I was sick sick not allergy sick so I don't know if they work for that. They are amazing, though.

Thanx for the advice. I went to the doctor yesterday afternoon and they gave me a shot and they prescribed two medications. One was for congestion and the other was for allegeries. I really hope it works. As of now it has improved my voice by about %40...so maybe it will work. If it doesn't I'll ask him about the steriod thing. :) Thanks!
