Does this ad not strike anyone else as the work of some four year old? I mean, Ahmanson must be handing out jobs.
The Best Musical. Ever.
How original.
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

Posted: 5/20/08 at 3:21pmIt's A Chorus Line, which has probably one of the most name recognition titles to people outside the theatre world, it became the longest running musical on Broadway when that actually meant something, it won the Pulitzer and it still moves audiences even to this day. It may be hyperbole, but I think it IS arguably considered the best musical. Ever.

I'm not really arguing that it's not the best musical (certainly one of the best, I'm not sure I'd say the best, but I can understand), though I didn't realise they had used that tagline before.
I was more talking about how it looks like it was tacked on using Microsoft Paint. Anyways, you may resume your normal programming...

Posted: 5/20/08 at 5:09pmTo be fair, it's not just the Ahmanson. That tagline has been used for the NYC production for quite a while (including the TV commercial).

Posted: 5/20/08 at 5:24pmYes I think it looks tacky. And the tagline is silly, whether used on Broadway or not. But more importantly it's a sexist musical. The women's costumes force them to show their gams, but that's not required of the men.

Except for the part where you said, "The Best Musical. Ever.
How original," right?

Clearly, Xanadu is the Best Musical Ever.
CLEARLY. And when it wins every single Tony award including all the play categories, people are going to be eating so much crow, it'll be an endangered species.
And the ad looks like an ad. As long as it isn't flashing some epileptic seizure-inducing nonsense, crashing my computer with some ridiculous plugin requirement or screaming "CONGRATULATIONS!! YOU MAY HAVE ALREADY WON A NEW IPOD!!", then I'm cool with it. It looks fine.
