The attacks on Valerie and me were upsetting, disruptive and vicious. They amounted to character assassination. Senior administration officials used the power of the White House to make our lives hell for the last 27 months.

But more important, they did it as part of a clear effort to cover up the lies and disinformation used to justify the invasion of Iraq. That is the ultimate crime.

The war in Iraq has claimed more than 17,000 dead and wounded American soldiers, many times more Iraqi casualties and close to $200 billion.

It has left our international reputation in tatters and our military broken. It has weakened the United States, increased hatred of us and made terrorist attacks against our interests more likely in the future.

It has been, as Gen. William Odom suggested, the greatest strategic blunder in the history of our country.
Our 27 months of hell

Valerie and I, Valerie and I, Valerie and I...

No, it's correct. You would say "the attacks on me", not "the attacks on I."

Rath makes a valid point, but it just doesn't feel right...

Personally I would say,

"When Valerie and I were attacked it was..."

Even if it is right, it's not well worded...

I'm a little more focussed on what he says after that . . .

Rumor is that Plame will soon resign from the CIA.

This whole episode is just sad and distressing.

Wilson had an editorial today in the LA Times I think identical to the one PJ has linked to.

And, Doxy, why don't you tell THE BOARD AND ME how the folks in Australia and Poland are reacting to the US president's diffculties? ;-}

Bad Deb,

I read the contents of the post, but didn't bother going to the link.

I think it has been posted in multiple places now.

I also heard that he will be on 60 Minutes tomorrow.

Actually, that would be grammatically questionable, because the pronoun "it" is unclear (what does "it" reference?). The way Wilson has worded it is fine, since the focus of the sentence is on the noun "attacks," and "on Valerie and me" is just a prepositional phrase giving more information.

At least he didn't say:

"The attacks on Valerie and MYSELF..." We live in a world where everyone believes the word "me" -- and its correct usage -- to be the equivalent of "ain't." People are so terrified of "ME" that they substitute the word "myself" at every inopportune turn. And on TV, when MYSELF" isn't trundled out, even learned journalists say "...between you and I..." I cringe. (And they "...feel BADLY" all the time too, instead of "feeling BAD," which is correct. But that's another subj.)

Please, let's not dumb down the culture anymore by suggesting that "...and I" in an object position in a sentence "...sounds better."

Otherwise, I can't wait to hear the 60 MINUTES interview with Wilson tomorrow night. CNN is revealing that Wilson will discuss Valerie's death threats. Me, myself, and I will be watching.

Here is some info about the 60 Minutes Segment:

"Joe Wilson, whose wife’s unmasking as a CIA agent is at the center of the special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald’s investigation, said today that that his wife, Valerie Plame, has been threatened. Wilson talks to 60 Minutes correspondent Ed Bradley, in his first interview since Fitzgerald announced the indictment of I. Lewis Libby, Sunday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

"There have been specific threats [against Plame]. Beyond that I just can’t go," Wilson tells Bradley. Wilson says he and his wife have discussed security for her with "several agencies."
