Sphylis - much like your character - I hit the jackpot and don't need to do either.

Glory be....

(I was never an usher - although, I did always want to usher - it seemed so cute to wear the uniform and help show people where to piss and stuff).

I never thought working in either a gift shop or as an usher or as bartender for the greatest opera house in the world was really insulting to one's character as you wish to make it sound, sphyliss.

To be surrounded by music and dance and to get to know others who love the same music and dance that you do and to be paid for it - was a wonderful thing.

It's hardly checking groceries at the Piggly-Wiggly.

I believe this will be the first year since I moved from NYC in 2000 that I won't be attending any of their performances at the Met. I definitely took advantage while they were in DC last week, but nothing about their spring season excites me.

I never miss it..to me, ABT means late spring/early summer like the sound of Mabel Mercer's voice or the smell of new-mown hay..but I sorta agree..

It's a little dull this year...

I have no idea why the idea of HD broadcasts is so impossible to comprehend at ABT....(and believe me, they are asked about it all the time)

They just have no interest whatsoever.

If there is one thing the Gelb Met administration has shown us it's people will attend opera at a movie theatre. They will then re-watch it on PBS (who are always thrilled to play 12 operas a year that they didn't pay for to produce)and finally, people love to buy the DVD when it is released.

(People are still jonesing for the Netrebko Juliet from, what, 7 years ago, to be released on DVD.)

Theres no reason to believe that people will not do the same thing with ballet. And. The possibility of growing your fan base is simply enormous..

They had a great opportunity to exploit this after all the "Black Swan" mania...and they didn't.

Yes, they need a new Artistic Director and a new Board.

I am finally making some plans away from the office, and just booked tickets to take Mom to see SLEEPING BEAUTY!

Such gorgeous music and such a classic ballet. Very excited!
