I love the series, too. The best -- and least respected -- ensemble on network TV.
The music they do fudge a bit, which I entirely forgive. I was the exact age of Meg at that time, and they tend to choose songs in a 3-4 year window, not holding to the actualy top 40 of any month in 65 or 66. It was a rich era for music, with many influences peaking: Motown and pop synthesized, too. (DREAMGIRLS fans -- this is the era that show nails.) They are using more now, but before have used less of the "British Invasion" music, since it may be harder to approximate with American guests. But it was heyday of good ol American rock. Remember, the pop angle was very mainstream -- we had Petula Clark consistently in the top 10. Unless I've missed something curiously missing from the show is a hot couple of that moment: Sonny and Cher. They had number one hits.

sonny and cher were on sunday night's episode actually.
You know, when they had Sonny and Cher on Sunday night, I thought it would have been perfect if they would have had Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey as them. But, I guess Nick is a little too tall to play Sonny.
As for the music-timeline-fudging, I've always forgiven them for that, because they've just always done such a good job picking songs that "fit" the moment they are showing. The montage at the end is always just so perfect - music and all.
I could gush about this show all day long.....

The Campbell's Tomato Soup product placement has officially gotten on my nerves.
It's so obvious whenever Patty says "Campbell's Tomato Soup" and punches every word. I realize the show gets a bunch of bucks for it, but when it's obviously product placement, it's obnoxious.

the Tomato Soup thing DOES make me laugh.
I love using the current pop stars to play the stars of yesteryear because it really does help draw a parallel between the events of the 60s on the show with the events of today.

I also can't stand the Campbell's commerical they always show. When that commerical comes on I have to rapidly change the channel or that damned song gets stuck in my head.

hehehehe. I sorta like when they show the classic TV clips on the show... VERY different from what we see today on air.
My son usually watches the first 1/2 hour of the show with me and falls asleep promptly by 8:30. He loves the soup commercial jingle. He sings it everytime it's on.
"Campbell's tomato soup......possibilities"
"Enjoy with your family, serve it up with grilled cheese....."
Come on people! It's getting cold outside, some nice hot tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich? Sounds good.
I don't think the show is on this week, due to some awards show. American Music Awards, I think.
