As a part-time position for the summer while I intern at a local theatre, I open and sort mail and checks for the emergency associates for a local hospital. Today, I received a medical form for a veteran who was listed as being homeless. I know that this isn't as simple as I'd like it to be, but it just really struck me how much America doesn't take care of its veterans.
I know that I know nothing of the details of this particular person's life, but just the idea that someone who has risked his life in defense of his country should be left on the streets is just...disheartening. Shouldn't these be the people the country should be taking care of above all?
DUH....where exactly have you been? You've just realized this NOW?
Did you just wake up out of many decades of sleep, Rumplestiltskin?
Ever heard of Vietnam? his just proves my point on the dumbing down of America, and how SO many people either don't read a newspaper, magazine, watch the news, or just simply pay no attention to life outside their little world.....
This has been happening for a LONG, long time.
As a veteran it truly pisses me off.
Why is this suddenly new news to you?????

i may be mistaken, but wasn't rip van winkle that slept for decades?
It's NOT that I just realized this. I'm sorry if I upset you by implying it was, or by implying that I hadn't cared before this point. This is definitely something that has upset me for years, I was just particularly inspired to write about it because of an event that happened during my day. Sorry for inspiring such hostility.
It was Rip and that's what you get for drinking with Little People!
It is a travesty what we don't do for our Servicemen and Women when they return. We pay then a little above crap to fight and give them a lot less the crap when they return. Even such things as money for education, health care and benefits have been whittled back to nothing. Support our troops? Hell yes but it has to carry over to when they are returned home. The effects of doing their job can last a lifetime.
There is an office for the Coalition of the Homeless around the corner from me. Many of it's clients are ex service men and women who have fallen between the cracks.
people, Rumple was sleeping WITH Rip......it was in all the papers, about their sordid affair
Taryn, I over-reacted...sorry, it is a definate problem that so many ignore or are not aware of
(I can't believe you people did not know Rumple and Rip slept together, especially after the stink Red (Riding Hood, Rips ex made)
