Am I the only one who was totally captivated by this movie? It was amazing! I really enver realized Matthew cant-spell-his-lat-name-dont-make-me-try was so good. SO GOOD. Anthony Hopkins and Morgan Freemen as usual brillian, and Djimon....AH so good. All of them were great.
Plus the story and the script...good God!

Ironically Amistad means friendship. Just kind of an interesting thing since it was a slave ship. I actually have a book on the event that the movie's based on somewhere around here.
I love the movie, but some scenes are incredibly hard for me to watch.
*word to people who don't like hearing or reading about blood don't read please.*
The whole whipping scene is horrendous. And I mean that in the sense of so horrendous to even imagine happening. The screaming and being beaten so hard that blood is pouring from their broken backs onto their faces. Ugh just horrible. Made me cry then and thinking about it just makes me want to cry. Some of the horrible and terrible things we did to people then and even in this day and age still do is awful.
But the film is wonderful with wonderful and great acting. Djimon Hounsou was amazing. Love the movie, but sometimes just painful to watch. Just amazing.

Yes I agree!
I actually had to watch this in the 7th grade for a project I was doing. My teacher told me I shouldn't, I could just Cry Freedom (another beautifully made movie) but I didn't listen. I cried and cried, but couldn't help watching it again, and I saw it for about the third time last night.
Absolutely incredible.
