This was a surprise as she's engaged to Stephen Moyer, but hey, why limit yourself!

April Fools?
Why would it be an April Fools in the middle of such a serious message with big celebrities?
Certainly being bisexual isn't any different than being heterosexual if you've fallen in love and are planning a life with one person. It merely leaves a larger pool of people you won't be having sex with if the marriage is to be monogamous.
What, no posts hailing how brave she is?
ETA: Hit reply before your post, jrb. Still, lackluster response in comparison to other coming out threads.
iflit, I do see your point, but I think that's a limited view of sexuality and the importance of coming out as bisexual. If anything, she would be able to put forth a positive image of bisexuals, who some see as unable to be faithful.
Why doesn't she just say, "I'm admitting that me and my husband are going to have 3 ways!"
Cause you know that's why he's marrying her...
Jerby, I think we are making the same point. I think that it's great that she is openly declaring her sexuality. My comment was in response to the idea that her statement is surprising since she is engaged to her male co-star. Marriage, be it a gay or straight union, is most often a commitment to be faithful to one particular person, so the gender of people with whom you used to have sex doesn't really matter.
I agree ifit...
They will want to know why she's announcing that she also likes to sleep with women when she's engaged to her male co-star.
While I applaud her for her honesty, I think her announcement is just going to confuse people.
And while a man coming out of the closet is looked at a certian way by the general public, lesbians are far more accepted.
Exactly.
It is my impression that many straight men don't necessarily view two women having sex together as defining them as lesbians. There is a lot of "tolerance" shown as long as a penis still is eligible to factor into the picture and be appreciated some of the time.
"as long as a penis still is eligible"
lol
I want this on a t-shirt!
Well let them be confused. And then enlightened eventually.
I think you are right about that stuff, iflit.
I was reading an article on bisexuality in Out a while back. It touched on some interesting points. Often within the gay community, bisexuality is looked down upon. When a man is bisexual, he is almost always perceived as gay or in the "before he comes out as gay" period. With a bisexual woman, it depends on her dating life. If she's dating a man, she's perceived straight. If she's with a woman, she's seen as a lesbian. The only time she's really considered acceptably bisexual is when she's single or casually dating more than one person. (Or she's a straight girl playing around for hetero men, but that's another article.) I don't think this is always the case, but that's certainly been my experience. Most people consider me a lesbian now. It doesn't bother me at all. If people need to fit me into a category, it makes the most sense. I am in a committed relationship with a woman. I don't ever plan on being with a man again. Technically, I am still bisexual.
I am not used to seeing someone in a committed relationship with a member of the opposite sex come out as bisexual. I think it's an awesome thing and I wish more people would do it.
Sorry. I should have ended my last sentence like this:
And while a man coming out of the closet is looked at a certain way by the general public, lesbians are far more accepted in the straight community.
Whatever it means for her, I'm happy for her honesty and happy that she's confusing the hell out of people and making them wonder and think and question their suppositions and preconceived notions.
And on Chelsea Lately they just said exactly what I just said. "Only a girl can be bisexual. If you're a guy and you're bisexual, you're gay." Then Chelsea quoted a friend of hers saying, "If you have sex with a man once, you're an artist. Twice and you're gay."

I just know there's a cunnilingus joke involving that gap in her teeth but I just can't get it out. It's on the tip of my tongue.
La La LAAAA!
Glad that she did this. I think the bisexuals have a horrible stigma put on them (even by the gays) and maybe this will be one big step forward.
