Now there's a loss. What a gal. I loved her dearly, and just last week listened to her "I'm Still Here" from Papermill's FOLLIES.
I hope wherever she is, she's tappin' the blues away, as only she could.
How f**king FABULOUS was ANN MILLER??!!??!
One of the dishiest, fun broads Hollywood ever produced.
RIP, doll.
And of course, Master, I know she is up there SHAKIN' the blues away, not tappin'. (Though she's in tap shoes, to be sure.) A s I grow older, I realize: Is there a better movie musical than EASTER PARADE? Anne and Judy, each shining, as only they could?
Update: On the Today show, news of Ben and J Lo's break-up, but no mention of Ms. Miller. What a world, what a world.
That's really sad that there was no mention of her death on Today. I had heard about it yesterday and watched the today show expecting to hear details. Other than Broadway related websites, Ann's death has gone with no more than a brief mention where they are able to squeeze it into teh newscasts.
Unfortunately, she is from an era that passed it's golden age long ago and she is very much forgotten except by fans of the great old musicals and serious dance students/fans. I remeber a few years ago on SNL when Molly Shannon used to do an Ann Miller tv show spoof called Leg Up (with Cheri Oterie palying Debbie Reynolds). I heard so many people say "I don't get it. Who are they supposed to be?"
Oh well, that's the way it is I guess. Last week Uta Hagen passed on and was probably unknown to most of today's younger Broadway fans. When Gregory Hines passed away, he was known to many only because of his stint on Will and Grace. Only older theater fans and those interested in dance would remember what a greeat dancer he was. It's terribly sad when people who have contributed so much and paved the way can be so easily overlooked.
I know, Orion. It's very depressing. But in many ways we are are like the silent movie fans who were upset when Theda Bara died in the '60s and nobody seemed to care.
One of the many great things about EASTER PARADE is...can you imagine how thrilled Annie was to be dancing with FRED ASTAIRE after making all those fun Columbia quickies?!
Yeah, i know. I'm in my early thirties and know of these older stars from having grown up with a grandmother who loved to watch old movies on tv and listen to old records. So I grew up watching Ann Miller, Fred astaire, Ginger rogers, etc and listening to Ethel Merman, Mary Martin and other Broadway greats. It's sad when people who I work with in our local thetaer group who are my age or younger have no idea who these older stars are.
They all seem to know Sutton Foster and that Hairspray girl, Malissa Jo Williewonker, or whatever her name is.
Malissa Jo Williewonker?!? LOL. i think i dated her. no, that cannot be right...
