She hasn't taken her eyes off the teleprompter and she's messing up words left and right.
I'm embarrassed for her.

Posted: 12/10/06 at 12:44amI've given up on SNL this season. It's so sad how it's gone downhill in the last few years.

Posted: 12/10/06 at 12:55amGwen performed Wind It Up the best she ever has live tonight! But, she didn't perform a second song. Akon sang his song. Anyone know why?

I really don't understand how they get these talented performers who are supposedly rooted in sketch comedy and then they can't take their eyes off the cute cards. (I am speaking of the Cast-- I didn't see Benning embarrass herself, but have had enough of the trained profesionals week after week).
THe few times I've watched lately all I can think is "THIS is the best they could find??"

Posted: 12/10/06 at 7:43amI thought there was a lot of funny stuff in the Matthew Fox episode. This one, not so much.

Both SNL & MAD TV had parodies of Apocolypto making rerences to Mel & his anti semetic rant. MAD is far superior to SNL
Bening did appear ill at ease. The fact that her opening bit was beyond lame did not help her

Posted: 12/10/06 at 10:53amThe show has been pretty awful as of the past few years, and especially this year. And people thought Tina leaving would make it better? Obviously not. Now it seems I watch it just in case something out of the ordinary might happen. Example: Last night when Alec Baldwin was there. "I live here" - that was true haha. However, I have grown to love the two a-holes They are my one motivation to watch. During a commercial this week during 30 Rock they had Annette, Gwen, and Maya & Fred dressed as the Art Dealers, so I got excited. Was there an Art Dealers sketch? I don't know, I turned it off when Akon was performing because I gave up. Please, can someone take me back to 2000, when I could laugh?

Poor Annette...she was pretty awful. I do enjoy the A Hole skits also. And, for some reason, the Consumer Alert skit made me laugh. And Apocalypto made me laugh. Three laughs in a single episode is pretty good this season.
Near the end of the show, a skit was interrupted and a SNL logo appeared on the screen..does anyone know what happened?

Posted: 12/10/06 at 12:43pmWell I had mixed feelings. I wanted to choke annette bening, Learn your lines damnit! And some of the skits were awful, like the one in the bar. But some parts were actually really funny

Posted: 12/10/06 at 1:03pmThe skits were awful. The highlight of the night was when Gwen Stefani was on and, when they announced Justin Timberlake was going to be hosting and performing next week.

Posted: 12/10/06 at 4:08pmThe logo happens when they are running out of time and have to end the skit early. Looks like they try to cut out at a convient moment but sometimes there is a few seconds of dead air.

I really liked the Nativity Scene sketch.
"This baby doesn't look anything like Santa Claus."
But Annette was... disappointing.

Other than the original cast & the cast with Piscopo/Murphy, it has not been that funny
It should have been put out of its misery years ago

I thought the exact same thing.

Posted: 12/17/06 at 12:00amI never thought I would say this, but Justin Timberlake can give Ms. Bening lessons in professionalism and commitment.

It wasn't bad - definitely had its moments. The thing is, Timberlake never once looked at the cue cards and was always completely committed to every character/sketch. And I recall him being exactly the same the first time he hosted.
I'm not a huge fan of his, and his music certainly leaves me cold, but it is very interesting to me how much more professional he was in this situation as compared to a multi-award winning, highly respected film actress.

Of COURSE he looked at the cue cards. He knew where to look for them and wasn't scanning around trying to find them. It wasn't obvious because there wasn't an underlying air of panic involved.
He was quite good, I'll agree with that. And the show was funny all the way through. The people who hate the show will always hate the show, eventually admitting they haven't watched it really since the landmark Joe Piscopo years or whatever.
