I saw Another Earth last night and am still mulling it over this morning. Loved the two actors, and although I thought you could see where the story was going I still found it interesting to watch the action unfold. I have a question for anyone else who saw it about the ending:
SPOILER
So did Rhoda's double on Earth 2 also win a contest to come to Earth 1? Are things still mirroring each other, but in a slightly fractured way (Rhoda says the synchronicity of the two planets may have been broken when they first saw Earth 2 four years ago)? Did Rhoda from Earth 2 continue going to MIT and achieve success, etc, and is John probably going to meet up with his wife and kids on Earth 2?
Would love to hear thoughts!
During the QA session at Sundance, the director said "the ending is all explained onscreen", which sorta suggests he didnt have a clue where this was going.
As for whether or not things still mirror each other, who can say for sure? We dont get to see Earth 2, remember. There's actually no reason not to assume that John's wife and son were also killed somehow to keep the balance of things.
It's a fascinating concept, but I just didnt think it was properly developed. Given the utter implausibility of it all, I dont think you can invest a whole lot into it *literally* but should take the story as you see fit. Any answer would be a possible right one.
