Frankly, I'm surprised that a country as homophobic as France would run that commercial. On the other hand, I'm glad they're doing it!
Borstal, do you go on omgblog? Because alot of the things you post are always on there.
And I LOVE this commercial!
LOVE that commercial.
And I love how it implies that "the smarter choice" is to leave your uglyish wife for a hot cowboy.
I'm up early because I have a flight to London at 8, but miss pennywise, France is many things, but it is NOT homophobic. France is one of the most gay-friendly countries in Europe. Same-sex marriage is practically legal in France with les pactes civils de solidarité and all foreign same-sex marriage being legal in France. So, a French same-sex couple could marry in nearby Belgium or Spain (or travel a little further to the Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, or Canada) and be married and have their marriage legally recognised in France. Several other jurisdictions have adopted similar rules such as Aruba, Israel (oh, yeah and all you anti-Israel people would really like to get rid of this and have the PNA execute gays in this land instead),the former Netherlands Antilles, and New York. I'm pretty sure that they're all the same in that you must marry in a place where same-sex marriage is legal, but I heard of a gay Israeli couple (well, they were 2 men. One or both could've been bisexual) who married in Germany and had their marriage legal in Israel, so I guess it's just based in how tolerant the country is.

It may be legal, but there is quite a stigma against it for the most part.
Sure, major cities like Paris, Cannes, Marseilles, and Nice are okay with it, but if you go to most places en provence (which makes up most of the country), you'll find very old beliefs and customs.
I've been visiting France for 30 years and actually lived there for a while. It is NOT "one of the most gay-friendly countries in Europe."
Well, I wouldn't really know about that side of France. I've only visited Provence once, and I didn't find any of those types. I've visited Paris MANY times (and lived there when I was a child and my father had a job there), other places in Île-de-France, Lyon, Montpellier, Nîmes, and a few other places down in the south near Languedoc. If France is so homophobic, then why is le Parti Socialiste for same-sex marriage? They are the largest left-wing party in France. Sure, I don't think that France is as gay-friendly as Scandinavia, Belgium, The Netherlands, or Spain, but it's a lot further than many other European countries.

Spain loves gay people as much as China loves multiple female babies.
And, you lived there, so you must now how much room provence takes up. Those cities are a minority compared to the amount of land where people are alone with their radios and grapes.
And, yeah, it may be legal, but look at it this way; In the states, civil rights have been granted to African-Americans, yet there are still bigots who are racist towards them.
A subject's legality and the way it's viewed by the populus are two different things at the end of the day.
yes, its an omgblog redirect. Omgblog is a treasure trove!
