nope that's not why. it's because of the 2000 ad that the naacp poured $2m into. remember? the on that had over black and white video of a pickup truck dragging a chain, the daughter of texas dragging death victim james byrd declaring, "so when gov. george w. bush refused to sign hate crimes legislation, it was like my father was killed all over again?"

Yes, I recall when Bush (who I hated even when he was governor) refused to sign hate crimes legislation. I belive I recall a news clip of him saying that hate crimes legis;ation was nothing more than 'special rights'....

I do believe that the hate crimes legislation in question was quite loosely worded. At the time, I recall someone making the case that standard crimes, robbery, assault, etc. Could be many times more severely punished if it occurred between races, orientations, etc. It is the 1 in 100 case of a crime like this that is an actual hate crime.

BG2, if I were to sneak up behind you in the supermarket and grind my no-no into your hoo-ha, that would be vanilla sexual assault.

If you declared to the court that you were gay and I was straight (tough to prove in this case, but nonetheless), that would've turned it into a potential hate crime under the proposed law. Now is that fair? I didn't grind my no-no into your hoo-ha because you were gay. I did it because you had a cute hoo-ha.

well, jrb, since i don't watch o'reilly nor do i pay much attention to his spiels, i wouldn't even know how to email him. but since you're obviously doing your part to keep his ratings high, you go right ahead and let him know.

I'm not blocking you, CKeaton, but I think it's fun to read everyone's posts, even if they hate you.
However, I think you should replace no-no with Dixie Carter's favorite word for it: Fancy.

I am surprised you don't watch O'Reilly. You guys seem to have a lot in common ideologically. Then again, I actually hold you in much higher regard than Billy, so maybe you don't.

I flip between all 3 cable news channels to get as truly fair and balanced as you can get in American news. And, I particularly enjoy hearing what blowhards like O'Reilly have to say on various issues. I believe it is important to know what your enemy is thinking. What brings joy to my eyes and ears is that he is so full of crap and smoke and mirrors that I can only laugh. What saddens me is that so many people believe him on various matters. (Maybe that is the exact extreme opposite to Michael Moore. If so, so be it.)
