I'm doing the Hair GMA performance thing and I need hippie clothes. Are there any good (cheap) hippie clothes stores in New York?
Just wear a torn pair of pants and a tie-dye tee with a peace sign.
Doobie is extra.
There is that one used clothes/Army NAvy store on Church Street just two doors south of Canal you might be able to find a swede vets in.
Also remember band leader jackets were very big in the late 1960s!

Chita there are many places that cater to the 'hippie' woman. Don't despair- I am sure you'll find a man who prefers a fuller figure, with more cushion for he pushing.

Exactly. Hippie, but still attractive.

My mom dragged me to Target the other day and I passed by a bunch of clothes that made me think of hippies.
Thank everyone! xoangel2789xo, were those mens clothing or could pass for men's?

No, I only passed by the women's section and they were blouses, skirts and dresses. I can't really remember if I saw anything gender-neutral. But here are a list of thrift shops, if you think that might be more helpful.

Take a cotton tee shirt, any color but preferably bold. Tie it in random knots all over and then roll the knotted shirt into a ball and bind it with a few rubber bands.
Drop said shirt into a basin/sink/bucket of water with a high (at least 1/4) percentage of chlorine bleach enough to cover the bundle.
After an appropriate amount of time remove the shirt, unbind and untie it. Then run it through the washing machine with no soap, just clear water to rinse all the bleach out. Dry it.
Presto. A one color plus white tie-dye. The bleach will have made the shirt easier to tear, but this method works.
The same thing will work with denim and just about any cotton garment.
How do you think we did it?
Plus whatever jeans you use, they must have patches. Period.
Patches, yes! The more the better, even some patches should have patches ( an american flag patch was politically scandalous for that period, it was considered by most a desecration of the flag). Adding fringe or some decorative gimp either to the cuffs of the jeans or down the side seams would also work.

Well, I just released a peace-love t-shirt design that you might want to check out.
Wear it with some worn-out bellbottom jeans and you'd be all set.
Best, Thomas :^)
