Are there any marathon runners here? I have ran two marathons here in Nashville, TN and was wondering if anyone here is a long distance runner. Are there any good marathons in New York City?

lol TGIF!!!
Anyway the NYC marathon is Nov. 7th. Although I am not running, I am volunteering.(taking the runners clothes at staten island, and meeting them at the finish line in central park)
Yeah I was a track/tennis star back through 7th-10th grade: Then I quit to do all the shows.

not a marathon, but I'm climbing the steps of the CN Tower on Saturday morning!
thats pretty cool judy. How many steps?
Hey WiCkEd4LyFfE thats really nice of you. When I ran the marathon, we didn't have people that did that for us. After the 5 mile mark, it was too hot so I took my shirt off and threw it to the side. I have never seen that shirt since.
I am going to start training for one in Cincinatti here in a few weeks. My first marathon! I posted a thread on it awhile back..I think NYadgal has run one or two possibly more...
yes - I've run a couple, including the NY Marathon. Although it was a few years ago...
If you want training info, the NY Road Runners Club has valuable info on it's website. They also do training classes/runs for people in the area...
It's a HUGE commitment, but an AMAZING experience!
The NY Marathon seems pretty cool. Is it basically a run through downtown? The marathon that I have done twice is the Country Music Marathon where the course is lined with 26 different country music bands, one band for every mile. I usually have to listen to my MP3 player instead cause I don't dig the country music enough to hear it that much. I think it would be pretty cool to run a marathon where they have different musical numbers playing live for every mile. But of course, how many runners do you know that dig Broadway Musicals?
There are lots of great upbeat Bway musical songs to run to!
The NY Marathon begins in Staten Island, runs through Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan (the infamous stretch up First Avenue), into the Bronx, back into Manhattan ending in Central Park.
The support of the crowd is amazing, with each neighborhood providing it's own special color... The energy gets you through the dreaded WALL!

The CN tower is the world's largest free-standing structure, in Toronto, standing at 1, 815 feet.
I will be climbing 1, 769 steps.
It's for a charity, the United Way, I don't know if you guys have that in the US.

Yep, we have it here. I think that every year there's a race to climb up the Empire State Building, too. :) I prefer the race around the basement of my college's library- the annual prize is a roll of toilet paper.
We've had a theatre usher race before, where we would see who could go back and forth zig zagging through the rows the fastest. The winner received a brand new steel framed professional usher flash light with lithium rechargable batteries. I prefer titanium flashlights though because they are more light weight.
haha I remember visiting the CN tower a few years ago. I took the elevator though
. I remember i was really scared to step on the glass floor haha because it felt like it could crack and i would fall to my death. Have fun judy!
ok back on topic...
I ran last year. It was my fourth. I'm done.
