But, I am finding it extremely difficult to get hotel reservations for that time period near times square..what would you suggest? You guys that live there...where is 54th? What is close to there? thanks for all your guys help.

Times Square is at 47th.....
The Gershwin Theatre is on 52nd....

Hotels that you could try are:
The Park Central Hotel- its on 56th and 7th(212-247-8000) I used to work there.. :) It's a very nice looking hotel, rooms are priced so so, you can go to their website www.parkcentralny.com
The Warwick- I think this is 55th and broadway
The Wellington-7th ave @55th (I think)
