Has anyone here ever taken coral calcium? I've been hearing about it for a while now and am thinking about adding it to my daily vitamin regime. My question is, there are SO MANY to choose fro, which would you recommend? I hear calcium citrate is better to absorb than others but am curious if there are any brands or mgs to consider. Thanks!

You should talk to your doctor. Are you male? This is the last place I would go to seek medical advice. You can actually overdose on calcium and get something called hypercalcemia.

I'm not really seeking medical advice. I don't have any problems that I am aware of, I'm just curious if anyone takes calcium as a daily vitamin?

Taking calcium really depends on what age you are, and you should definitely talk to your doctor.

If you take a multi-vitamin, you are probably getting sufficient calcium for a healthy adult. Too much calcium causes so many problems! If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Your doctor will let you know if there is any reason to need more.

I really don't each much dairy, thats why I thought it would be a good idea to take a calcium tablet.

My doctor wants me to take a daily calcium supplement but she didn't give me any recommendations.

I have RA and the meds I take for it have given me osteoporosis. I'm now taking Actonel weekly (prescribed by the same doctor) so the calcium will be in addition to this. This (I'm sure) makes my needs FAR different from yours!

You can get calcium from other things, like green leafy vegetables! A lot of adults are lactose intolerant, and don't touch dairy at all. If you have osteoporosis, or are taking medications that can cause calcium loss, that is completely different, and you do need a supplement (and Vitamin D along with it).

Mamie, hit your doctor up for recommendations. You need to be taking it in the right form and dosage. And good luck - RA is tough, so keep fighting!
