A month ago my doctoe put me on a new drug that was just FDA approved for weight loss in diabetics. It is called Symilin made by Amylin Pharmaceuticals. The drug was obtained by my doctor through the company. Most prescriptions plans are not covering it yet because it is so new. Basically, it is a miracle for diabetics. It hasworked very well for me. My prescription plan {
Medicaid/Medicare is not covering it. I can't get it free through the drug company because they can't keep up with the demand and supplies of it are very low. I can't afford the retail price for a 3 month supply. What am I supposed to do? This drug was only saving my life. I am just letting off some steam here.

I know what that's like... my insurence comapny won't aprove my Zofran anymore... we have an appoinment with the doctor who might be able to help us get it back. It's about $100 per dose without co-pays, and even with co-pays, it's still expensive ($80 per refill)
I know of some places that will help pay for meds... I'll look them up for you and PM you with the info.
Good luck with yours.

I feel your pain Grovers,
After back surgery years ago, I was prescribed a wonderful NON narcotic painkiller. Worked great. The insurance company decided it was CHEAPER for them to prescribe me the narcotic CODEINE instead. I fought for years to get them to allow the non narcotic drug instead, and eventually my doctor backed me up and now the non narcotic drug is covered.
My suggestion is to get a doctor on your side; they do have a bit (not much) more pull with the insurance companies than we do.

Posted: 6/20/05 at 7:07pmThanks JustMe..........I am contacting a docor at Yale in the morning who is on the advisory board of the company that makes the drug. I just so happen to live in CT anyway. Let me see what he can do.
