So, I have decided to audition for a community theater production of Neil Simon's Rumors. I read through the whole thing, just to be familiar with it. I thought it was absolutely hilarious, but weird. Is anyone familiar with it, or ever audition for it? It's just a straight play. I'm also sort of nervous, mostly because this is my first community theater audition. I've done really small things in college, and that was about it. Any advice to doing this or what could be expected with this production? All I know is that they are holding open auditions in May.
I was Cookie in my high school's production of "Rumors" my senior year (last year). It was SO much fun. I know, for my role at least, that comedic timing is THE most important thing in the show...so, if you're good with that, you've got a leg up.
Do you know if this community theater generally has many older people audition? At least Cookie and Ernie are meant to be a slightly older, more refined (hah, if you can call them that) couple, I believe. Are you a current college student or graduate? I'm just trying to get a feel for your age. I feel like you'd probably be considered for all of the female roles besides Cookie if your community theater has a large actor base with older actors also involved.
I absolutely adored the experience I had in the show...lots of drunkenness involved, especially when the police officers come in in the end. Oh, so amazing. I actually got a Cappie Award (don't know if you're familiar with that) for Best Comedic Actress for that role. There's so much room with each of the characters to have fun and be amazing.
I hope you have fun!
Yeah, I just graduated college, making me 23. I actually have absolutely no idea about this theater to be honest. I know they do a lot of children's musicals, which only kids and anyone up to 18 can audition for those, but anyone can audition for the other productions. So I guess I'm just gonna wing it at age. I just hope I don't get turned down because I look too young.
I doubt that will happen...you're definitely old enough to fit most of the roles, if not all (like I said, depending on the age bracket we're talking about for the auditions).
Suuuuch a fun show.
