My vote is for Johanna operatic, any other part legit musical theatre.
Operetta or legit musical theatre Gilbert and Sullivan or Kismet maybe.
Don't do straight up classical or opera...
what part are you trying for? where is it being put on?

Because you're never supposed to sing a song from the show you're auditioning for unless specifically asked to.
Anyway, what Juliash said.

Not necessarily. If you are in a situation where you know you are born to play a certain role and hold a certain level of confidence that you can land the part, go ahead and sing a song from the show! When we did Sweeney Todd, I auditioned with "Johanna" because I was confident in my ability to get the role of Anthony. I wouldn't recommend it if it's a professional show, sure I would say no (unless you can really really really really and i mean REALLY rock it and work that sh*t hahaha), but if this is for community or educational theatre and you can rock it and feel confident. go for it.
In terms of Sweeney Auditions, it really depends on who you're going after. I would need to know that first. hahaha

I am looking to audition for Judge Turpin.
I would say something that showcases a strength as a baritone. Not necessarily operatic because the Judge is not that. That role belongs to Johanna and the Beggar Woman and holds hints in Anthony and the Beadle. But I would definitely find something that just showcases you in the light of the Judge. Just don't over creepify it. haha. Be honest in it. Judge Turpin has a lot more depth than most people realize.
