hey guys i was wondering what your opinions are on me singing a song from hairspray for my audition for grease...the only problem is, its good morning baltimore.
Iv been the lead in the directors show of schoolhouse rock and hes really funny and a showgirl at heart(LOL)so im not really worried about this one...would you think it would be legible at more profeshional audtions to do this?
thanks in advance
cheers

My first opinion- DON'T AUDITION FOR GREASE!!! Horrible show, in my opinion. Just had to say it.
Second, Hairspray is probably not the best choice, especially for professional auditions. You NEVER want to do something on Broadway at the moment. And you probably wouldn't want to do Good Morning Baltimore either because it's usually not great to sing a song by the other gender. There are exceptions but... If you are auditioning for community or high school theatre, however this is all pretty much irrelevant. In com. theatre it doesn't really matter because the people auditioning are usually kind of "off the street" and not as familiar with theatre.
Hope this helps. (except for the first part
)
Check out Footloose and Tommy - both rock-edge musicals.
There are also shows like Return to the Forbidden Planet, Starmites, and Weird Romance that have semi-poppy stuff that shouldn't be too overdone.
Do something from Zombie Prom the musical it is very grease and I used it for my audition. You could also sing a pop song from the 1950's like the first time i did Grease I san "Blue Moon" and got Danny so it couldn't hurt. Break a Leg p.s. i don't think hairspray would be a good choice.
