Audition Songs for a Tenor
#0Audition Songs for a Tenor
Posted: 2/24/06 at 11:21amOk my range is from a low B to an A (above middle C) and I'm looking for a really good audition song. I have an audition the 8th of April and I really want to blow them away so I thought about using "Confrontation" from J&H, or "This is the Moment" from J&H. It shows off both my voice, and acting ability? Any advice?

again, i can offer some advice! hahaha.
what's the audition for?
generally, songs from J&H are overdone, but you might be okay depending on what it's for.
ps -- i just pmed you back. :)

Posted: 2/24/06 at 11:39amI know I just read it...lol...I just pmed you back too...lol. It's for a Performing Arts Troupe that travels around the state all year long. Almost 2000 audition per year and only 14 are chosen. I got in last year but it's procedure that we have to audition every year just to give other ppl a chance to get in. I know the ppl I'll be auditioning for and I really wanna blow them away cause last year my audition was really... "mellow" but this year I want them to see my other side...lol, know what i mean :) ?

It's Been Grand - She Loves Me
Lost in the Wilderness - Children of Eden
When the Children are Asleep - Carousel
Goodbye Old Girl(young joe) - Damn Yankees
You Walk With Me - Full Monty
just a couple on the top of my head.

Posted: 2/27/06 at 11:30amThanx! mwjr16 I understand what you're saying..it won't make sense without the rest of the show. :p I'm still looking because I want to find that one song that clicks and really shows off my range. I haven't heard some of the songs that were suggested but I'm possitive my voice teacher can get the sheet music to it. Thanx for the advice. How do you know if a song is overdone and should not be used for an audition? Do you just know, or is there something in specific you look for? Thanx! :)

Sing any of Jamie's songs from "Last Five Years" they're amazing and show off your range and dynamics if you sing properly. And LFY songs are rarely used and not well known, but still fabulous music.
I sing Shiksa Goddess at some auditions.

that list of five songs was a good list...be careful with lost int he wilderness becuase the music is really hard to sight read. L5Y stuff is good music, but actuallyi s used frequently and is also difficult to sight read. The level of difficulty in the sheet music should only be considered becuase the accompanist will most likely be sightreading it and if they can't play it, that only screws you up. Good luck!
PS Bui Doi is from Miss Saigon. Good music, but younger singers are urged to shy away from saigon or les mis. if you can sing it tho, go for it!
