I've been racking my brains ever since if found out that our community theater is doing Into the Woods to find an audition song. I'd really like to play Jack, so I need a really good audition song, and for the life of me I can't think of something. I thought about doing one of the songs from the show, because the director doesn't mind if we audition with material from the actual musical. But "I Guess This is Goodbye for Now" is a bit short, and I've heard "Giants in the Sky" is difficult to perform without practicing with the pianist befor hand (unless I got my hands on the junior version?)
So any suggestions would be a HUGE help to me. I'm going through all my sheet music and CDs looking for the right musical theater song. Anything that doesn't go higher than a G natural is good! Thanks for everyone's help.

This is true what you say about singing "Giants" without practicing with a pianist. It's got a bunch of breaks in the music that depend on a mutual understanding between vocalist and accompanist.
How about "Grow For Me" from LITTLE SHOP or "Goodbye Old Girl" from DAMN YANKEES? A cut from the latter and the entire former are fabulous, character-wise (Grow? Beans! Old Girl? Milky White!).

Corner in the Sky is a good recommendation. I would suggest Joanna because its Sondheim but Sweeny just came out. So that might look a little cheeky. I would suggest "Proud of Your Boy" by Alan Menkin. It was cut from Aladdin. You can find sheet music. If you want a really strong tenor piece, I recommend "A Wanderin Minstrel I" from The Mikado by Gilbert and Sullivan. Pick something that a young man or boy would sing. Good luck.
