I'm auditioning for a new "contemporary/pop" musical in a few weeks and need some suggestions for audition pieces. I'm trying to avoid Jason Robert Brown if possible since he's done a lot, but if anyone has any suggestions as to good pop-ish musical theater songs for baritones, I'd appreciate them greatly = )

p.s. Is "I'll Be Here" from The Wild Party overdone? It's one of the ones I was considering.

AH! I feel totally dislexic. I thought the topic was Pop song for Musical audition....maybe I should get that checked out...

But!

Check out some songs from Closer Than Ever. "What Am I Doin' " is a great song.

(right triplethreat?)

I would actually say that if you need a really good pop song for a musical theatre audition and they dont specify that it has to be from a show, do something contemporary.

What kind of artists do you recommend for contemporary songs? I'm always at a loss. I can't think of anything. Can you recommend some good songs for a female? Thanks for your help! My mind is totally blank-so frustrating! Thanks, Ashley

Anyone whos strong vocally, stay away from "artists" (I never understood the use of the word in this context) such as Britney Spears and the Simpson sister. Bonnie Rait is a personal favorite. But it really depends on your voice type. Only go for powerhouses if you can pull them off. By powerhouses I mean Aretha Franklin etc. What about Annie Lennox? "Walking on Broken Glass" is also a personal favorite
