Hi! My name is Grace and I love Musical Theatre!
I know that sounds corny, but I wanted to say it.
I'm looking for female audition songs for me. I'm an Alto/Tenor, but I can also sing low Mezzo as well. I was hoping to find:
-An upbeat song (Like for auditioning for "My Fair Lady")
-A ballad
-A torch song

You know what? Just any kind of audition song will do. But mostly those three, if you don't mind! Thank you!

It's nice to see another female alto/tenor around here. I have trouble finding good songs, too, but "Back to Before" from Ragtime seems to work pretty well for me- it only goes up to a high B, but there is a high A that needs to be sung strongly. Other than that, it mostly stays around F# or lower. A lot of the older women character's songs are lower, but if you're auditioning for something outside of school theater (i.e. where everyone will be approximately the same age as you), you should stay away from those. "Heaven Help My Heart" from Chess isn't too bad, either, and you don't really have to belt/sing out if you don't want to. Unfortunately there aren't too many songs for this vocal range that aren't written for males.

Songs from anything Carol Channing ever did.

Hey there! I'm actually a soprano, but I know a great source for contraltos. You should try The Singer's Musical Theatre Anthology. It is great! It's all original scores-none of that different arrangements--so you can feel secure it's from actual shows. My voice professor recommended it for me, so I thought I would pass it on to you! Good luck!

P.S. I included a link to one of the books on Amazon.com. I really hope this helps.
