Auditioning for The Drowsy Chaperone!

Hi,

I'm auditioning for the production of "The Drowsy Chaperone" that my student-run university musical theatre company is putting on in Toronto. Although I have a bit of a repertoire going, I'm looking for some new material.

My vocal coach recently introduced me to the music from "Little Women" and I fell in love with the song "Astonishing" and it sounds quite good with my voice. I feel confident singing it. However, after perusing the internet, I came across a few sources saying that this song is overdone, and (as I already knew), hard to cut to an audition length. (particularly this article: https://contemporarymusicaltheatre.wordpress.com/2012/06/14/what-what-what-are-you-singing-part-i/)

Does anyone have any recommendations for female solos that I could use to audition for this show? It would be nice to get some opinions on what style of song I should even be singing to audition for this musical. Thank you in advance!!!

Hi! What are some of your favorite styles/shows? Maybe I could find something similar.

What's your vocal range? That would be a good start.

Hi! I don't know exactly what my range is. I sang alto for a very long time, but then I met my vocal coach who told me that I've been a soprano all these years! Since then I've been working on songs with ranges to that of Astonishing, The Light in the Piazza, Someone Like You (Jeckyll and Hyde).  I'm comfortable quite low (Cabaret) and high (The Light in the Piazza). Sorry I can't give anymore information, but I really don't know what my highest and lowest are!! (I should figure that out)

I like all kinds of musical theatre, anything from the Golden Ages to Hamilton, but I'm looking for something that's in the style of The Drowsy Chaperone. I've watched the musical once on youtube, but I can't find any songs similar to those styles that are on the "Overdone" or "Bad Audition Songs" lists Auditioning for The Drowsy Chaperone! Any suggestions for audition songs are welcome! I'll listen to them and see if they're a good fit for me.

Thank you for your effort!

OK, I don't know how far this will go but the show goes along the lines of shows like On The Town (one of my favorites right now) and other "old " shows that are semi popular. Hope this helps!
