BATMAN - THE ANIMATED SERIES Appreciation Thread

Loved this show. It was REAL drama! They didn't kiddy it up like most cartoon shows. They had plot, action, and drama. Top it off with great villains, and a storyline that actually developed (Robin, then Batgirl, and multi-part episodes).

The animation was good, too. Wasn't drawn to be COOL or UNIQUE - it was lifelike and real.

I LOVE that these are finally on DVD!

I also loved the movies that came off the series: SubZero, Mask of the Phantasm, etc.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

This was the greatest work in the super hero genre ever done, be it comics, movies, or wherever. Paul Dini and his crew got it the way no one else ever has. Perfect entertainment for kids, perfect entertainment for adults.

The minimalist look overtook comics in its wake, blowing away the early 90's hack and slash over-rendered art.
