this girl can really sing, i mean she can really belt out some lyrics! why isnt she on the stage already?
She can also spell her name Brittany.
I heard a rumor (and this is just a rumor) that she was in talks to play Mimi in the movie version of "Rent".
I think I saw her in a non singing role in A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE a few years ago.
I sincerely hope that the Mimi was a misprint and they meant Maureen. Although the box office failure of Little Black Book really hasn't done her any favours so she's probably out of the running all together.
She was great in BRIDGE, but I have yet to hear her belt out a tune. Where did you hear her sing?
I'm not sure if it was Maureen (I know, I found it odd that they'd consider her to play Mimi) but I read Mimi. My eyes could have been playing tricks on me though.

Brittany was rumored to be taking on the role of Sally in Cabaret for years. I'm sad that never happened, and I'm sure she is too...I remember reading how she was at the show a couple times, bawling as she just identifies with that time period so much.
Seems to me that with her consecutive failures at the box office, she's ripe for a Broadway musical any minute now.
Harsh, Al. But totally true.
Didn't mean it to sound harsh. She simply cannot carry a film. No one runs to the movies to see a Brittany Murphy movie even though her people are desperately trying to make her in to a star. "Uptown Girls" was a disaster at the box office and she was unwatchable in it. She's better suited for side-kick roles yet she keeps trying to helm pictures and it's obviously, a mistake. Like I said, she'll be a Broadways' door any minute now.
And let's face it, if they let Brooke Shields in, then they'll let anyone in.
Apparently La Murphy has an album coming out before the end of the year. Could be interesting.
Yes, her and Paris Hilton. We'd better pre-order our copies now, since there'll be such a rush.

Mimi needs to be Latina, sorry,(and I don't think she is a strong enough actress for Mimi) but I actually do not hate the idea of her playing Maureen. I am very much against stunt casting in Rent, but she fits the role in my mind. And plus she wouldn't have to carry the movie, it's a supporting role that's quirky and fun, something we know she can do.

I agree. she could pull of Maureen, but i can't see the Mimi.
I always thought she'd be a perfect Louise (GYPSY). And yeah, she can sing.
And her LuAnn on King of the Hill is one of the best-voiced animated characters I've ever heard.

before we rush into trying to convince her to sing lets work on getting her in roles where she actually has to act again! I mean in the beginning I thought she was a good actress ... but somehow "Just Married" and "Little Black Book" just aren't impressing me. So Brit maybe try your luck at a part that requires some work next time? Then we can talk about singing.
One of those MTV shows where they document a person's life during a certain period...can't remember what it's called...anyway they did her during her recording of a song for the Little Black Book soundtrack. I had also heard her sing on TV some years ago but can't remember what the situation was. Just remember knowing for a while that she could really sing.
She made her singing debut in 1995 when she sang the song "Rollin' With The Hommies"
I can't BELIEVE none of you remember that.

I heard her sing on the VMA's several years ago. She was part of the opening number. She's amazing.
That's probably where I heard her, zoran.
Oh yes, wasn't that the time around 8 Mile?
If they did a musical of 8 Mile, I would love to her the duet when she's getting pounded in the factory.
