What does it mean when someone writes "bump" on the message board?

When a thread gets a new post, it moves up to the top. So if someone wants their thread back at the top, they often just post "bump" to "bump" it back up.

When people are replying ot messages, the topic moves to the top of the message board because it becomes an active thread. People will "bump" a message when they want more people to see the message, since people typically begin at "the top" of the message board and work their way down.
