"It's inappropriate and vulgar and absolutely unacceptable to use your private life to sell anything commercially, but I think it's kind of a sickness."
This from a woman who has a career because of who she was married to. Hmmmmmm...

This from a woman that wrote three autobiographies?

Posted: 8/1/05 at 2:19pmI think one can exclude an autobiography from her logic - you can't write an autobiography and not use your private life, huh?

Posted: 8/1/05 at 2:26pmAn autobiography is the very essence of using your personal life for commercial gain. And THREE???????
#10re: Bacall on Cruise
Posted: 8/1/05 at 2:26pmand she wasn't "selling" anything. the woman is a legend and shows real class.

Oh my, Robb. The epitome of class isn't writing one autobiography, then adding a chapter to make two more to squeeze every penny out of your personal life that you possibly can.
And she's not that talented. Really. She got in with the right people. Just because she's been famous for 50+ years does not make her automatically talented.

i'm not saying she is classy BECAUSE she wrote 3 autobiographies. comparing tom cruise/scientology to lauren bacall/fancy feast/autobiographies holds no logic.
lauren wants to educate you about her life and have your cat well fed, tom wants you to join his cult.

For years Pearl Bailey was "The Biggest Bitch in the Business".
After she died, that title passed to Betty Bacall.
Now that Betty is semi-retired, I don't know who owns that title, but I bet Betty Buckley is real close.
Bacall is a tough, mean, cheap broad, so don't go painting her as a saint at all. She is nowhere near. One of her agents fired her because she was too stressful. Things have to be real bad when an agent fires a star.
To her credit she has longtime friends who love her dearly which does say something.
Cruise is just loopy and with luck, has started career suicide. I do wish he'd do one more scene or two naked before it all starts to head south.

We interrupt this post to say...
I had never realized that "Applause" had been shown on tv.

We now return to our regularly scheduled topic.

Posted: 8/1/05 at 3:21pmTurner Classic Movies is airing the interview with her tonight along with some of her better work. She is a broad that tells it like it is. I don't begrudge her earning a few bucks, and I hardly think selling an autobiography or three makes her a sell out. I'll be intersted in hearing what she has to say tonight. Those interviews are always pretty candid and fun.

Posted: 8/1/05 at 3:26pmSueleen, how do you know if someone you've never met is "telling it like it is"? She's telling things from her perspective. Other people who were there might disagree.

Posted: 8/1/05 at 3:27pmThink Odd Lots, Overstock.com, etc. Tuesday Morning is a discount chain that sells merchandise that other stores weren't able to sell. I think they get their new shipments in on Tuesday's.

Posted: 8/1/05 at 3:29pmWell, that is true, Rath. Perhaps I should have said "never one to hold back in telling us how she feels..."

That I can go along with, Sueleen. No matter the consequences, she does do that.
I've seen those Tuesday Morning commercials here, but I don't know where any stores are.
