re: Back to school time...

I'm starting my dreaded senior year of university on September 9th (which is strange this year - why is school beginning on a Thursday?).

re: Back to school time...

That happened to my sister, Budfrump. She ended up without a roomate the whole first semester.
What is Broadway? A street? Some say it's a street. Some say it is the best street in the world. Others think its terrible. That's the beauty of it, it's terribly beautiful. Some hate it and don't know why. Others love it and don't know why. That's what makes it so wonderful, it's a mystery.

re: Back to school time...

I go back day after tommorrow and I am very depressed and not ready. My last year ended on a bad note and I don't want to face it again. Anyone care to commiserate?

re: Back to school time...

Wizard, which uni do you go to? Is it U of T? I know Western also starts on the 9th. Queens is normal, we start on the 13th.

re: Back to school time...

Yep, I'm at U of T! The school I love to hate!

Seriously, it's a good overall school, but they really do push your nose to the grindstone in workload and difficulty, and they treat you like a number. It's a good school for its reputation, tradition, location and courses (so many choices!), but since U of T's focus is a research university and graduate school, the undergraduate experience can leave much to be desired. But what doesn't kill me only makes me stronger, and now that I'm planning on applying to grad schools, a U of T education allows me a better pool of choices.

re: Back to school time...

I've heard from a lot of people doing their undergrads at U of T that you are all but forgotten. Apparently the classes are oversubscribed, the profs are unavailable and in a lot of cases, difficult to understand for accent reasons or otherwise. I'm sure a lot of good can be said of it too, but the majority of my friends at U of T are trying to get out!
I didn't apply there because it was too big. Queen's is nice for me, not too big, not too small, and still a first-rate education that is well-respected. But- to each his own!
What's your major?

re: Back to school time...

My first day was today. All things considered, it looks like I may actually enjoy my classes. The first two (American Civ and Journalism in Mass Media) are going to be big screaming-debate classes, I can tell. Not that there's anything wrong with that... :) Then I have bio, but the prof is...well, she's crazy, but at least she holds my attention. Then I have social psych, which will be very interesting.

re: Back to school time...

What's your major?

At U of T I'm allowed to do two, so I'm doing a double-major in English and *cough* Computer Science.

About profs being unavailable, it really depends on the course and subject. My English profs are frequently available. Actually, it's ironic because the undergrad population is so huge, but the English profs always say that no one comes to their office hours, which is true. It's because students are so apathetic at U of T, and so disillusioned that they think they won't receive one-to-one attention, which they can if they looked for it.

After 3 years, I've come to terms with the frustrations of UofT and have learned to appreciate the finer things. re: Back to school time...
