My wife and I are thinking about seeing it on Monday afternoon. Has anybody seen it? I don't know why we haven't-we both love Pedro Almodovar. I noticed it was snubbed at the Oscars, probably because it deals with homosexuality and Catholic sex scandals. Anybody have a quick review?
It's a beautiful film. It wasn't snubbed because it deals with homosexual themes--plenty of such films including Pedro's have been nominated and honored. It was not submitted by Spain for the Foreign Language Film category--The Sea Inside was.
Not Almodovar's best, but even half-baked Almodovar is better than most crap these days. The performances are really wonderful, even if the plot is a bit contrived. It is really a homage to noir/Hitchcock, right down to the opening credits. I really liked it, but like I said, not his best film.

I actually thought it WAS one of his best. Maybe not quite on the level of All About My Mother, but excellent in its own right. Loved the Hitchcockian twists and turns of the story. The film looks and sounds great. And then, there is Gael Garcia Bernal...
