Bad YWIW!

I did not know you could get a red light ticket on a right turn! But, apparently, if you do a "California stop" on the Red, you can!

Damn!

Turns out that Saturday visit to Costco is going to far more expensive than I thought. I just hope I can get traffic court!

re: Bad YWIW!

Oh really! Were you cuffed???????????????

re: Bad YWIW!

Aww...I'm sorry re: Bad YWIW!

I don't know what a "California stop" is but, if it says "No right turn on red," then it's illegal (and you can get a ticket)

If it doesn't say "No right on red," You have to stop and see if any cars are coming and if not, then go...

re: Bad YWIW!

I got cuffed last year while visiting a brother in San Diego. I'd had too much to drink, went out for a walk and somehow ended up on the freeway. One of the reasons I became a teetotaler.

re: Bad YWIW!

A "California Stop" is when you approach a stop sign or red light and you don't stop, you just coast and then turn. And yes . . . even on a "right turn on red," you still have to make a complete stop. My wife works for the DMV and I have to hear it every time I do that. haha.

re: Bad YWIW!

You can turn right, but I did not come to a complete stop, more of a rolling stop).

I am just hoping for traffic court so I don't get the point on my insurance record.

I did not even realize that they had cameras for right turns. A very expensive lesson. $361!

Stoli and Zorra may have to go without a few extra treats for a while.

I actually read up online and found out that the corner involved is apparently the most heavily ticketed for this kind of infraction in the country. I guess the city of Hawthorne has to find some way to pay for its public works.

re: Bad YWIW!

Y, find a good lawyer (yourself) and try to get that in during your case. The judge might give you leeway on that old stupid hearsay rule.

Ask the cop how many tickets he has given at that intersection.

California sucks. You have to drive to go anywhere. Then you get tickets, even if you're nice. re: Bad YWIW!

re: Bad YWIW!

Well, not so bad as all that.

re: Bad YWIW!

Its a camera that got me. Not a cop.

I got the bad news in the mail today.

I could try and challenge it, but apparently they usually have about 12 seconds of video between you going to and through the intersection. And, often if you challenge the ticket, you are less likely to get the option of traffic school.

And, truth be told, it was a rolling stop. So, I don't have that much righteous indignation. Perhaps it is karma coming back for all the stuff I did not get caught doing when I was a kid!

The only tickets you get in New York are theater tickets.

Wow, Big Brother really is watching us!

Sorry, YWIW. I can sympathize...we've had quite a few traffic violations in our family over the years. Good luck.

re: Bad YWIW!

Yes, they included a picture, but no, I am not going to share!

This is my first ticket in about 20 years. I guess I was about due.

Y, if you request a trial who testifies? The camera?

re: Bad YWIW!

They go over the statistics, the time between shots, look at the picture taken to see how clear it shows your face ...

Some do get dismissed, but the picture is clear enough to be me, so I don't think I could swear under oath and say that it is not me. It really is the reliability of the machines at issue.

And with that, I am off to prepare for one final exhausting work day!

Happy Friday one and all.

re: Bad YWIW!

Maybe, since it's your first in a very long time, you won't get points? I was afraid earlier this year when I got my first moving violation (65 on a 55) and I never got the points or the insurance raise. I'm a lot more careful now.

re: Bad YWIW!

fight it, ywiw. i fought a ticket for "running a red light" a few months ago. i was making a left and waiting for traffic to go thru the intersection before i made my turn. a car was speeding up to make the light and went thru the intersection just before the light turned. i was already in the intersection and turned after he sped through. a cop was waiting on the other side and gave me a ticket.

what really bothered me was that the first words out of the cops mouth to me were, "what's the matter, the light wasn't red enough for ya?"

i went to court, the cop never showed up and i got my money back (you have to prepay the ticket in my small town even if you're pleading not guilty, go figure).

the funny post script to the story is that when i went to court to fight the ticket about two months later, the cop never showed. but i called the police on another matter that same day when i arrived home from court. the cop that showed up was the cop that gave me the ticket originally and never showed up in court.

how funny is that?!?

re: Bad YWIW!

It is harder to fight with the cameras. The cops don't have to show up - they have you on video. You then have to challenge the validity of the camera, the warnings... They alredy have the pictures with the time stamps which I could argue could allow a very short stop and start, but it would be very, very short!

I am still thinking about it.

Damn those computers, damn them all!

Otherwise, Happy Friday everyone.

re: Bad YWIW!

fight it anyway. maybe the camera was broken. or didn't get a clear pic of your license plate. or....or...or...

happy friday, you criminal you!

RobbO, what if one is color blind? Can they be excused for running a red light then?

Just trying to think of options...

(I pray I don't get a ticket.)
