Does anyone know the name or website for the (not Amtrak) commuter rail service that runs from Baltimore area to NYC?
I need to find weekend fares/schedule.

I don't think there is such a service... I think there's no commuter-rail link between Baltimore and Wilmington.
If you can get to Wilmington (or Newark, DE) somehow, then you can take SEPTA trains through Philadelphia to Trenton, and then catch a NJTransit train to Penn Station.
So Amtrak (or Greyhound, or some other bus service) may be your best bet.
Of course, my info may be out of date; it's been three years since I asked my Delaware-based aunt about this very issue.

Posted: 3/8/06 at 8:44pmBeacon - there is no commuter rail from Baltimore to NYC. There's only Amtrak. I take it from the BWI station, but it also stops in downtown Baltimore. There is a cheap bus service - $35.00 round trip I believe - from somewhere in Baltimore to Times Square. I'll try to find their website.

Beacs,
The only way to get to and from NYC from the Baltimore-DC area by train is Amtrak. You can take a bus...there are several companies that run daily schedules ranging from about $30 up.
My sister opted for a mid-range fare of $60 the last time she came to visit me from NYC. The schedules can be crazy.
Like Moonie, I go to NYC by train from BWI station, and it takes about two-and-a-half hours. Tha bus will take a lot longer, of course. (I LOVE the train. There are lots of ways to get discounts, which I can share with you, but normally, the RT fare is about $150.)
I can ask my sister for her travel advice for you, if you like.

Thank you all so much for the info.
I have someone traveling with me at the end of the month and they said that if we got to Baltimore there's a commuter rail which is a $30 one-way ride to NYC.
Nothing matches that on-line anywhere so I have been going crazy.
I need to get her to get more info from her "source."

Here's the $35.00 RT bus company. But it looks likes they only operate four days a week. Strange.

Oh, I'm sorry. You're probably talking about MARC. There is a commuter rail, but I know so little about it. Go to www.mtamaryland.com for info.

Thanks. I thought about the MARC, too but it seems to only operate to points south towards DC.
I'm waiting for my friend to get back to me. It's possible she misunderstoond her source--or her source doesn't have accurate/current info.
I appreciate your help! :o)
