99.99% of reality shows should be banned. A couple actually do have some sort of entertainment value.

sheesh, Beauty and the Geek is horrid.....
It is ridiculous to set a detective story in New York City. New York City is itself a detective story...

I loathe reality tv. It has lost all entertainment value. It makes me really sad that 99% of TV is reality TV. The only shows that I enjoy are the nanny shows and the TLC remodeling shows.

Oh, please don't ban "Extrme Makeover: Home Edition". I loves me my Ty Pennington!!!!! Besides, the show really is heartwarming.

Ty is adorable, and that shows does a really good thing. I tie that one in with the TLC remodeling shows.

Ty drives me CRAZY. If he'd just stand there and look pretty, I'd be fine. But once he opens his mouth... it's all over.
I agree with reality TV being banned. It makes me so sad how there is a whole channel dedicated to it now - Fox Reality. (Though I couldn't help but watch the marathon of Last Comic Standing..)

I wouldn't oppose the existence of reality television so much if it didn't take so many people's jobs, like actors, writers, and directors...it's a really disgusting practice.
So while we can't ban it, please boycott for the sake of all the artists who are out of work!

I am hooked on both Big Brother and Survivor.......and yes, I know they both are ridiculous shows, and unworthy of my attention. As I missed the Big Brother first show last Thursday due to being out of state, I may just not watch it.
BUT.......I do find them more entertaining than the NUMEROUS police shows.......and the poor excuses for comedies that infest television now.......mostly I watch movies, and usually on AMC

My roomates got me hooked on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. It's really rediculous we all sit around the TV trying to pretend it's not making us cry..never works
...besides that just get rid of it all! It's definitely time for the reality TV phase to be over.

I love the remodeling shows and makeover shows. I hate shows like Beauty and teh Geek and what not. I have gotten into watching teh show with Tommy Hilfiger though.

"Reality" TV has been showing that it's no more "real" than an episode of "My Favorite Martian" lately. "Reality Show Writers" have been petitioning for union protection and the stories coming out have been most illuminating. Most R-shows are calling their writers "producers" or something similar, but employees are complaining that they are required to storyboard episodes, come up with 'contestant' responses and biographies and "situations" no matter what they are called. The script to an upcoming episode of "Queer Eye" was produced as evidence; it outlined what sort of things would be found in the Straight guy's apartment, what the salon employees would say about him and the sort of trouble he'd have with the recipe provided by Ted.
I noticed that the new "Princes of Malibu" is being called an "Unscripted" show by Fox-- NOT a reality show. They apparently are telling the kids what sort of trouble to get into but not telling Dad what to yell?

I confess that I am a reality show junkie: Survivor, Amazing Race, The Apprentice, Kept, Strip Search...
But we have to be careful that we know that the line between "reality tv" and "documentary" is thin.
30 Days is one of the best shows on TV right now. Some might see it as "Reality TV" but it is truly worthy of the more artistic label of "documentary".
And the truth is--Reality TV IS Documentary. So, what we might want is
1. less documentary, so that actors can work.
2. better topics for these documentaries.
In the beginning, REAL WORLD was brilliant--and a good "study" of how people communicate. It has become trash TV--and probably has little more than mere entertainment value--and that's fine, too, if you dig that.
And, ironically--I learn things on even some of the trashier shows. But I definitely learn things on shows like 30 DAYS.
But we have to be careful that we know that the line between "reality tv" and "documentary" is thin.

Joe - David Foster, his wife, and the stepsons (I believe they are 23 and 25) were on The View the other day. The stepsons apparently came up with the concept and sold it. The mother and Star Jones were going on and on about how accomplished they were for doing that. I wanted to vomit. They have all the connections in the world, and a family that begs to be portrayed for comic value - how hard could that have been? They acted like they had just graduated from Harvard Medical School.

Oh God Rath! I am no David Foster fan, but I was STUNNED he had ever agreed to this stupid show--now you tell me it was HIS Stepkids idea?
Why in the world would he do this? He has more money than God. I guess it irks him that he's not a household name. I could understand the Osbournes-- rockstar on the decline, kids they wanted to showcase, but this guy is LOADED. He sure doesn't need the cash. The ads look horriffic. Why in the world would someone agree to go on TV to look igorant and oafish?

I think Reality T.V is ok. but now there are WAYYYYY too many of them. so yeah, if you ban a few that would be ok...lol
