Posted: 2/4/10 at 5:30pmI'd always heard "babble" as well. That's how Schwartz rhymed it in Godspell, which makes it official.

"Let's call the whole thing off!"
If DADT goes, the road to equality become much easier. Because then the argument becomes, "how can we deny marriage rights to the people dying for their country?" Worked for voting and can't hurt elsewhere.

Posted: 2/4/10 at 8:51pmI agree, jrb...though another part of me can't help but point out that we don't let a good chunk of our troops drink alcohol legally.

True.
And assuming people will be logical despite their homophobia can be a very mixed bag.

"Babel" (rhymes with Mabel) was also known as "Babylon" (which sounds like "babble on") so the pronunciations get confused, which is appropriate since in the story God punishes them with confusion.
I always used to confuse the Tower of Babel with the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
My favorite part of the Tower of Babel story is the name of the king who architect: Nimrod. I always used to confuse him with Elmer Fudd, because Bugs Bunny called him a nimrod.

Posted: 2/5/10 at 2:48amI find it entirely logical to confuse bible stories with Loony Tunes.

Which was actually a pretty smart reference on Bugs's part, since Nimrod was "a mighty hunter before the Lord." And Elmer, of course, is a mighty wabbit hunter.

Posted: 2/5/10 at 11:10amI just got this image of the Biblical rain of frogs -- all of them plopping down on ancient Egypt singing "Hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my ragtime gal!"

Posted: 2/5/10 at 12:24pmDUCK AMUCK does bear some resemblance to the Book Of Job, after all. Doesn't it often feel like God is re-drawing the cartoon as we live it, and saying "Ain't I A Stinker?"
