Statement from Barack Obama on the passage of the Iraq withdrawal bill:
"We are one signature away from ending the Iraq War. President Bush must listen to the will of the American people and sign this bill so that our troops can come home....All of us have been touched by the heroic sacrifices troops have made in service to our country. With the stroke of a pen, President Bush can bring them home to the families who love them and to a country ready to give honor them for their service."
And this from John Edwards:
"Today, the Senate passed a bill that would fund the war in Iraq while bringing the conflict to a close. Both Houses of Congress have now given voice to the will of the American people that we must end the war in Iraq. The President has said he will veto this legislation, which will defy the American people and deny our troops the funding they need. The President will be the one blocking support for our troops, not Congress. If the President does proceed on this stubborn path, Congress must not back down in a false game of chicken. They should send the same bill back to the President -- and should do this again and again, as many times as it takes for him to understand that the American people are right and the war must be brought to an end."

That spending bill is a mess. Both fail to include the fact that they nixed the Iran Provision, which would have required Bush to halt any preemptive strikes on Iran. I doubt very much we will be out of Iraq by 2009. Fact is, the US will be there for years.
The Democrats need to really come clean. I’m getting so tired of the “two-sided” story crap. People need to do some simple homework and understand that there is not much difference in either party’s policies.
GET THIS: There are benchmarks in this bill to continue the privatization of Iraqi oil, in the form of passage of a so-called Hydrocarbon law. Democrats will have legitimized the reason we went to war in the first place. OIL!
LEAVE NOW!

Priority # 1: Remove Republicans from office.
Priority # 2: Reform Democratic Party.
Note to mejusthavingfun: It doesn't work in reverse.

Well while both those things are happening the Democrats allowed the following:
1. Iraq's Oil is privatized to the BPs, Chevrons, ExxonMobils, and Shells of the world.
2. Bush can bomb Iran to control their Oil.

Who do you think is worse? At least the Republicans do what they say they will do.
I know we only have two parties, but what the hell are we to do when both are supporting the same agenda?
This "timeline" is nothing more than a ploy. Trust me. If I am wrong you can come back and tell me, but mark my word. The oil will NOT belong to people of Iraq, and we will in some way attack Iran. Though I imagine we will provoke them to attack us first.
It's all here in this tiny little bill. Why does Bush want to veto something containing what he wants? Because it says he is "wrong," but not all that wrong. He still wins!
Two wrongs do not make a right!

The headline on Yahoo! News is "Congress Bows to Bush, OKs Iraq Funds."
That headline makes me cringe like no other. Even moreso than that stupid press conference this morning... which made me so mad I shed a couple tears.
Congress bows to Bush... is this the Congress that we elected....?

Congress bows to Bush... is this the Congress that we elected....?
I went broke, sweat blood, and worked 20 hour days on a Congressional campaign in the 2006 cycle -- here's just a little insight on the overall strategy of the DCCC: none. zero. nada.
The DCCC, which was headed by Rahm Emanuel did a piss poor job of coalescing the Party around a single agenda. Back when he was selected the anti-war sentiment among the electorate was not as strong as it was in the months leading up to the November election-- but when over the summer when it became clear this election would in fact become a referendum on the war he failed unite the Democratic and run with a purpose of ending the war.
It became a pissing contest between the DCC and the DNC. Emanuel played tag team, target district politics, sinking money only into selected districts and throwing the rest of the candidates under the bus -- in direct contract to Howard Dean stated goals upon becoming the Party chair, which was to run a 50 state strategy.
On the bright side Progressive Voters Network is teaming up with Dean's 50 state strategy and are already working on the ground with the DCCC to mobilizable. However, I fear that the leadership buckling after one veto may be a little too much to overcome...
That said one has to wonder -- if the polls show Americans are as dissatisfied with the situation in Iraq -- how come that isn't resulting in noise? I've worked in Senate/Congressional offices...every call is logged in --- if their offices were deluged by the angry 60-65% of the population believe me they would have the political will to fight on for redeployment- no matter how petulant President Bush chooses to be.
Therefore, I must lay a large amount of blame on the electorate -- we have the right....
No.
Wait.
We have the duty to petition our Representatives -- afterall, they work for us. So while I do think Congress failed miserably today, I also believe the citizens failed.

Posted: 5/25/07 at 7:54amGee, I remember saying that the Democrats sucked as much as the Republicans, and everybody jumped all over me, telling me to just admit that I AM a Republican, etc. I asked why everybody wanted to see Democrats in office, and I was told how much better it was going to be. mejusthavingfun couldn't be more right. You have the same lies, but with Dems, it just more jaw-dropping, because they're so lousy at it. The two-faced aspect of them is astounding to me. Hope you dupes are all happy.

Posted: 5/25/07 at 8:32amThis dupe stands with Senator Russell Feingold, who said, "I cannot support a bill that contains nothing more than toothless benchmarks and that allows the President to continue what may be the greatest foreign policy blunder in our nation's history. There has been a lot of tough talk from members of Congress about wanting to end this war, but it looks like the desire for political comfort won out over real action....I'm not just taking aim at Democrats. This is George Bush's war."
#15democrats to voters: bee-hee-hee-haw-haw-nah-nah-nah-boo-boo
Posted: 5/25/07 at 8:36ami think the democrats should hold responsible those dinos (democrats in name only) who voted for this. attack them in the primaries and replace them with real democrats. and boy it's a whole pisspot full of them.
