please, everybody knows what Joe's "kung fu grip" was really for. To enjoy terrific "alternative" Barbie history, see the American Postcard series of "Nostalgic Barbie" cards with new captions inserted on vintage Barbie ads. Brilliant.

Sample: (Midge says) "OH KEN I'm in love with you...let's get married and move to a tropical island...we'll be together forever." (to which Ken replies) "Great Midge, but who's gonna cook my dinner and clean the house after YOU GET DISCONTINUED IN 1964?!?!?"

or (Barbie says) "Ken's the perfect boyfriend...his plastic skin is easily washable, and when you get tired of playing with him, YOU CAN JUST STOW HIM IN A SHOEBOX UNDER YOUR BED!"

papa--I read Conduct Unbecoming. Randy Shilts devotes an entire chapter to G.I. Joe's love affair with Ken and how the military spent way too much money and energies trying to boot Joe from the Army, despite the waste of millions of dollars in training and his perfect military record. It was only due to fear of bad publicity that the NIS pulled back on their investigation. However, they still tried to get him to name names.
It is also mentioned how Joe won the beauty pagaent in drag--competing against real women, voted on by fellow soldiers.

G.I. Joe knows the back of an Army jeep like the back of his hand!

jrb, randy shilts was a bitter queen who never got over joe's rejection of him and swore to get back at him. so what did he do, but spread lies in a book when he knew that joe wouldn't bother to defend himself.

One poster here has an icon featuring that trippy 1970s fetus-head doll that was too freaky for 1970s kids so it was discontinued after just one year, only to be rediscovered as a hot collectible 30 years later (and there are books on the doll, too)..But what was that darn dolls' NAME?!
