Bedknobs & Broomsticks Turns 35 Years Old...

NEXT YEAR. PERFECT time for Disney to make a 2-disc special edition DVD release!

I rewatched the film today with my grandmother. SUPERB acting by Angela Lansbury! The children were great, too!

Now, my grandmother grew up without a television. She lived with my aunt for the past few years and has been watching a lot of contemporary movies.

After watching BEDKNOBS for the first time today, she stated "Wow, they should make more movies like this. That was really something special." She didn't even know it was a film from 1971!

The Sherman Brothers wrote a very nice score for the film.

It's lovely bobbing along-

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Honey, you've got to stop. You have got to let go of the Disney. It is time for you to put away childish things and grow the frick up. Be a MAN. It's really worth it.

BE A MAN!
We must be swift as
the coursing river
BE A MAN!
With all the force
of a great typhoon
BE A MAN!
With all the strength
of a raging fire
Mysterious as the
dark side of the moon

Hee-hee, I won't grow up!

I don't see this on stage at all. It's a very good film, with the talent, musical numbers, and story - but the plot is dull.

They'd have to really spice it up.

i distinctly remember seeing this movie on the big screen. i always loved the overture/main title design and music. it was disney's attempt to create another MARY POPPINS, and it failed at that attempt, but it's quite entertaining in it's own right. and, yes, angie made a great heroine.

i used to do puppet shows, and THE BEAUTIFUL BRINY SEA was one of my favorite numbers to perform, with a black light and flourescent sea creatures.

I LOVED THIS MOVIE! I must have watched it at least once a day when I was growing up. I did alternate between Bedknobs, Sound of Music, Camelot, and the Music Man, but Bedknobs held a special place in my heart.....it always will.
