I had it about 4 years ago. Fortunately, mine only lasted for 2 weeks. I have a friend who got about 10 years ago and it never went away. I remember reading that the average length of time that it lasts, if it's not going to be permanent, is about 3 months. From what I understand, it can be brought on by stress or, believe it or not, being caught in a draft. Mine was definitely stress related. Happened the first day on a new job. My friend claims that hers was brought on by the A/C in her car blowing on her face. Who knows? It's one of those mystery ailments. I didn't go the acupuncture route - in fact, I didn't seek any medical attention, but I would definitely try it if I ever got it again. Can't hurt. And if conventional medicine doesn't fully understand it or know how to treat it, why not try alternative medicine. Good luck. May it pass quickly. It definitely sucks.
Thanks to everyone who has posted! I originally posted this because nobody I know has ever known anyone who had it. I wanted to hear some real stories.
Luscious, I hope mine decamps as fast as yours!
Well, I've got the eye taped down, a patch over it and I'm on my way to the grocery store. If the lines are long at the check-out, I'll play for symapthy. This damn thing will at least have its compensations.
My sister had it years ago, and it may have been brought on by a combination of stresses, emotional and physical. She had a slow recovery because she remained in the stressful situation. Once she got out of the situation, her condition improved greatly.
I really don't think mine is stress related. Although I teach in the public school system in a ghetto school, it is fairly stress free.
