BEFORE YOU START TRYING TO BELT!!!!!
listen to a LOT of the classic belters, patti lupone etc. i'm not talking pop belters like idina, sherie (though i love her voice!!) - because that's a skill that can only come with real vocal maturity. listen to the classic belting technique, not just the song that's being sung. it really does help.
BUT DON'T TRY TO BELT TOO HIGH TOO FAST......it will only hurt you. i'd say stick below B until that gets to be second nature for you.

If you scream and/or shreak people will never know the differennce!
Good luck!
I can already belt with the best of them, but that has nothing to do with singing.
I want to improve my belt range. I've been taking voice lessons for about 2 years now and my chest voice is pretty natural. I can belt up to about an A, but I want to be able to go higher.

You take a piece of leather, punch some holes, and there you go!
Oh, not that kind of belting? Oops.

Don't confuse musical theatre belting with the current crop of screaming American Idol singers. They are two different things and the latter will ruin your voice if you do it for very long.
Take voice lessons from a reputable teacher and learn how to put your diaphragm behind the belt. You'll be happy you did and so will your throat.
