For me, it doesn't really get much better than Susan George in Mandingo. "I craves you to do it, Hammond."
Tallulah Bankhead in Die, Die, My Darling! is also up there.

Glebb: Do you also include BONNIE AND CLYDE where Faye Dunaway is concerned? Frankly, I thought she gave a strong, well-nuanced performance in that film. Her best, in my opinion.

I'll have to disagree with you here Glebb....most anything Crawford did after Mildred Pierce was campy, but her early performances are great. Same with Davis. I can't pinpoint her exact fall into campiness, as she kinda wavered in and out of it in the late forties and early fifties.
I have nothing to add about Dunaway.

Posted: 9/30/06 at 12:51amThe message of Fatal Attraction basically seems to be: "It's okay if you cheat on your wife with another woman, just as long as the two of you get together and kill the bitch."

"Agnes Moorehead -- HUSH HUSH SWEET CHARLOTTE"
Thanks for the memory Margo. What a forgotten and totally forgettable performance. And she was so great in "Bewitched".

i ***love*** that movie, & her character is one of my all-time favorites!

Yes, yes, Susan and Gina too...
Throw in the whole damn casts of BOTH movies, if you want!
They certainly qualify.

Piper is campy but she's also frightening in that part.
If you put her in, you should throw in the mother in "Sybil" too.

n69n --- There are other campy performances like Piper's in "Carrie" that also succeed on different (and very effective) levels...
Like Gloria Swanson in "Sunset Blvd."
Elizabeth Taylor in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?"
Kathy Bates in "Misery"
Definitely campy... but they also go way beyond that to "darker places."

Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon in BOUND
Beatrice Straight in NETWORK
Maxwell Caufield in GREASE 2
Currently, the great actress Fiona Shaw is pretty f*cking (unintentionally) hilarious in THE BLACK DAHLIA.
