So I just moved to the city recently and am currently distressed over the process of finding a new hair stylist. As I'm coming here to act, I don't have wads of money to spend in a top salon or anything of the sort. Does anyone have good recommendations for reasonably priced haircuts in the city?

Check with some of the big-name hair salons - they used to have schools where they trained students and give haircuts, coloring and stylings for free. Sure, you're maybe taking a chance but I never had any problems. Bear in mind I haven't done it for a very long time, and don't even know whether or not this still happens, but it's worth looking into. If your hair is very long and you're looking for a shorter hairstyle, many upscale salons will give you a free cut in return for your donating your hair to Locks of Love for wigs for cancer patients.
It depends on what you consider reasonably priced, but I LOVE Salon Dop Dop in Soho. I was a hair model and got an amazing color for free, but apparently they charge $40 per cut for models now. Jo REALLY took the time to talk to me and get my personality before coloring. She and her crew do the same with cuts.

I hear good things about Bumble and Bumble.

Astor Place Hairsytlist charges $14 and up for a haircut. They're a NY staple ... been around forever.
If you're looking for REAL cheap, there is a hairstyling school on West 27 or 28th Street near 8th Avenue (its close to FIT) ... I think they charge something like $5 for a haircut .. but remember these are students, so you have to be patient with them as what would normally take 20 minutes by a professional can take the students almost an hour.

Bumble and Bumble was one of the ones I used - though it has been a very long time since I used them, they were top-notch and very professional. I was very happy with their work and was a hair model with them for a couple years. I'll also second Astor place - cheap, no frills, but real pros.
