Hi everyone!

I'm looking at summer intensives for next year and would like to have some advice ... So far I'm looking at Stella Adler, Atlantic, and also the professionnal musical theater program from Cap 21... Any insight into those programs would be helpful... I live in France so it's more difficult to really judge a school from so far... Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

I'm wrapping up a week at Open Jar productions in New York right now and it has been INCREDIBLE. I've learned so much this week and I really feel like I've grown a ton. The intensive lasts 5 days, and is in the heart of Broadway. We literally stay in Times Square. You also see four Broadway shows during the week. During this week we've seen How to Succeed, Priscilla, Anything Goes, and then tomorrow we're seeing Sister Act. The program is run by well known Director/Choreographer Jeff Whiting and our guest artists this week have included Stacia Fernandez, Stephanie J. Block, Forrest McLendon, Josh Buscher, and a ton more. We also just finished a talk back with the cast of Anything Goes (Including Sutton Foster) and it just has been incredible.

For everything (including airfare coming from across the states, obviously France would be more) it was about $2,400 for the week, but that also includes all your meals and housing for the week. It's 100% worth every penny.

Open Jar has been one of the best weeks of my life.

Admission into the intensive is audition based, so I do recommend making sure you get in touch with the program to make sure you can get in an audition.

Hey Jeff!

Thanks a lot for answering, this sounds great but actually, I was looking for something a little longer... Crossing the ocean for 5 days seems bit of a luxury... Most drama schools have 4 to 6 weeks intensives in summer, for more or less the same price as Open Jar... It does sound great though, but the thing is, for that kind of money, I'd rather study for several weeks and go see the shows I choose on the side... :) Thanks a lot for the insight anyway, and I'll keep it in mind for another time, as the guest list does sound amazing! :)

Look into Broadway Theatre Project then. I'd probably call that program second best (In my opinion...it's a totally different beast though). BTP lasts for 3 weeks in Florida and still gets you working with some of the biggest names in the business. Choreographer Deb McWaters runs that program and it too is audition based so you'll have to set up an audition for that. BTP is around $3,000 for tuition plus airfare, and other expenses.

I'm not sure of your schooling but you could look into some university based programs like Mpulse at University of Michigan and the MT intensive at Carnegie Mellon.

I'm 30 years old, so a little old for all the youth programs... Besides, I would really prefer it to be in New York, as I have friends there who could host me, which would reduce the overall cost... But thanks for the suggestions! :)

I was a part of the Cap21 Professional Program in the summer of 2010, and it was the best experience of my life. Absolutely the best thing I've ever done for my training, and I completely changed as a performer in the 6 weeks I was there. I couldn't recommend a program higher.

Thanks for your answer! Actually, I was had dismissed Cap 21 because they don't have a I-17 for foreign students to have a visa, but that was for their full time program! I'd forgotten they also have a summer program! Thanks for reminding me, I'm going to apply! :)
