Biden to Go Easy on Palin

I guess Biden didn't get the joke about the difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull. (Or maybe his handlers just know how gaffe-tastic he is and it's their way of saying "Let's all play nice.")
"If Sarah Palin goofs, flounders, stumbles or blunders during her debate against Joe Biden on Thursday night, Biden is going to let it slide."

I don't see the debate occurring at least not with Palin taking part. McCain is already hinting that he'll 'suspend' his campaign AGAIN as a gesture of 'country first'.
I have a sneaking suspicion he'll pull the plug on the Palin project late this evening.

Big mistake. She needs to be treated just as any candidate would. Did Hillary's male counterparts take it easy on her? Of course not. Nor should they have been expected to. I know it's strategy, but the kid gloves approach sickens me.
The format is going to be quite different than the Obama/McCain debate. Initially, the McCain camp argued for two minute answers with limited exchange between the candidates. I don't know what the final outcome was. The longer she talks, the more she screws up, so shorter is better for Sarah.

Posted: 9/30/08 at 11:39amI didn't get the joke about the pitbull, either. The general disposition of a pitbull is the same as you'd expect for any other domesticated dog. It is true that they can be trained to become vicious attack dogs. Since she drew the comparison, I guess I can ask without charges of misogyny - who is training this bitch?

"she'll have an earpiece telling her what to say"
Does anyone remember that I LOVE LUCY episode where she stuns Ricky by conversing fluently in Spanish by having someone in the kitchen telling her what to say through an earpiece? And then, of course, everything went wrong and hilarity ensued.
What fun that could be all over again!

Posted: 9/30/08 at 12:08pmI hear Biden is trying to work the lyrics of "Easy to be Hard" into one of his answers. Of course like the speech he plagarized from the Welsh politician, he'll pretend like he's just thinking it up.

I agree with blueroses on this. The American public needs to see this woman for what she really is.
And I know people here are probably tired of me saying this, especially after yesterday's fiasco on Capitol Hill, but I do hope they bring up her record as Governor of Alaska on the aerial hunting of wolves and try to get her to explain that one. I hope Biden is prepared to nail her on that one.
I would hate to have that issue not brought up, then Obama wins and Palin returns to Alaska and continues that program without it getting into the national debate.
and on yesterday: Whether a Federal bailout of the economy would ever work or not depends on how the bailout money is managed. A problem cannot be solved by simply throwing money at it. I'm not convinced this Congress is up to the task.

"I would hate to have that issue not brought up,"
Then it should be fine for Palin to bring up Biden plagiarizing a Welsh politician almost word for word.
re: Biden to Go Easy on Palin#18
Posted: 9/30/08 at 1:12pmI'm sure she's memorizing something about it right now.

"Former Labour leader Lord Kinnock today welcomed Joe Biden's nomination as Barack Obama's running mate, despite the vice-presidential hopeful plagiarising one of his most famous speeches." ~ Telegraph, UK
Yes, fun indeed.

From Salon.com:
Last week here at Salon published a pretty good roundtable on the subject of presidential debates that featured Democratic adviser Mark Fabiani, Republican consultant Russ Schriefer, and The Atlantic’s Jim Fallows.
In Time magazine this week, former John McCain adviser Mike Murphy offers his thoughts on how to have a successful debate performance. The most applicable part of Murphy’s advice, especially as it might pertain to vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, may be this section:
A lot of debate prep is given over to mastering another basic rule: never make the rookie's mistake of actually trying to answer the question you are asked. Candidates are told instead to quickly "pivot" into their central campaign message whenever possible.
Question: "Governor, why is your hair on fire?"
Answer: "Nobody understands fire better than America's brave firefighters, which is why I'm so proud to say that the heroes who make up the National Firefighters Association took one look at my 11-point plan for comprehensive national health-care reform and strongly endorsed me as the only candidate in this race who is standing up for working, middle-class families who need health care now." Also, always keep talking until the moderator is forced to stop you with a foghorn blast or by reaching for an elephant gun under the desk. Airtime is gold.
Palin is going to be doing this a lot--turning a question as quickly as possible onto the safe ground of a pre-packaged answer. To be fair, she will hardly be the first or last candidate to do so.
But I wonder if the “airtime is gold” rule applies. The longer she is on screen, the more she talks, the better it is for her? Maybe. Maybe not.
On a related note, Joe Biden might do himself a world of good by stopping at one point during the debate (but only once) to say he yields the balance of his response time on some question to Palin. The media would like nothing more than a soundbite where Biden, who has a reputation for living by the the airtime-is-gold maxim, goes silent without prompting--and in which Palin, perhaps caught off guard, has to think quickly on her feet to deliver a non-pre-packaged answer.
