Do you honestly think it matters?

We are not translating what he meant to say. He said what he meant. What we are doing is explaining the comments that people are misinterpreting and spinning because apparently most Americans wouldn't be able to pass a 5th grade reading comprehension exam.

ETA: We are a nation of soundbites and headlines. And as long as we continue to be, we are going to continue to sink deeper and deeper.

It's not all their fault. It's the effing media and them just showing clips of him saying the "bitter" and "clinging to guns and religion" part without showing the larger context.

Like I said, we are a nation of ****ing soundbites and anyone who tries to start a meaningful dialogue gets torn apart.

I went back and read what I wrote, and I it did have a condescending tone to it. But I didn't mean for it to.

I just really, really believe, I really want to believe, that we as a nation have the strength and fortitude to get this country back on track. People have different opinions, different beliefs. I understand that, and I cherish that. These differences are what make humanity so interesting. It is what gives mankind color and variety. Who wants to live in a world where everyone is the same? But with that variety, there are differences of opinion.

There is nothing wrong with that. But, in this day and age, these differences of opinion have prevented us from having real dialogues about real issues that are affecting real people. The "us vs. them" mentality is unbelievable. And it is the result of the media and politicians playing up these differences for their own benefit. For votes or for ratings or for good stories.

The media and politicians have taken something that is fundamental about humanity, individuality and difference, and turned it into a way to make it seem like there are two warring sides of our nation.

Our differences do not need to make us hate one another. But everyday the media and Republicans and Democrats make it seem like because someone disagrees, they are our enemy. Because it furthers their own personal cause.

And to do this, they use soundbites. They manipulate people, they lie, the mislead. And this comes from left and right. And I'm sick of it. It makes me sad and mad and I'm sick of it.

We, as a people, deserve better.

And this issue with Clinton and McCain and the media spinning these comments is a prime example of this. His comments overflow with empathy, with a cry for Americans who aren't under the same hardships to understand and empathize with those he mentioned in his comments. Because through empathy and understanding, you begin to understand we are all human, we all have a humanity.

But now this comment, this cry for empathy for them, has become his attacking them for being bitter and clinging to gun and God. Because it has been reduced to a soundbite.

Anyone who thinks that people aren't bitter because their lives aren't all they should be needs no bigger, better example than the resident off-topic loudmouth.

Every vapid comment he makes about this issue proves the truth of what the good Senator from Illinois has said.

I feel for him, and I hope that one day he's content.

SticktoPriest, stick to your guns. I commend you for trying to get people to listen to more than soundbites, of which the loudmouth is a cornucopia.

It still resonates as loudly today. Everything about that film and quote.
